Experienced Learning Support Assistant required for specialist setting in Wetherby

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a specialist school in the Wetherby area who are seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join their existing team. This position will be temporary in the first instance, with an opportunity to become a permanent member of staff pending success in the role. The school is within driving distance of both Leeds and Harrogate, and has good public transport links.

The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 with a range of Special Educational Needs including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) . All pupils have an Education and Healthcare Plan (EHCP) and require specialist and targeted support and intervention to meet their needs.

You will be based within a secondary class, with KS3 and 4 pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions. The pupils in this class may display some associated challenging behaviour and potential aggression as a secondary need to their Autism, so experience in managing pupil behaviour and responding appropriately to this is essential. You may possess Team Teach or MAPA training with the ability to provide positive listening and learning techniques to de-escalate and support recovery in these individuals. You may be required to work on a 1:1 basis with specific pupils to provide specialist intervention, to engage appropriately with learning activities and to develop positive social interaction with their peers.
