Teaching Assistant - KS4 ASD Specialist School

  • Full-Time, Permanent Position

The school Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for is a Special School for children with profound, severe and complex learning difficulties. The school is situated on an excellent site within extensive grounds in the Longfield area. The school building incorporates specialist facilities of a gymnasium, performing arts studio, music, science, design and technology, food technology rooms. There are good sized classrooms, provision for hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, school nursing, an interactive room and soft play room. Their pupils are given many opportunities to develop their independence within a safe environment.

We are looking for a teaching assistant to join this SEN school for children with PMLD and ASC.

As an SEN TA, you would be working within a key stage 4 class of around 8 students, assisting the class teacher in a range of subjects. Students at this level have access to a range of nationally accredited qualifications (including ASDAN) and entry level courses in DT, Food Studies, Art, Science, Humanities and IT. Lessons focus on building social skills, independence and preparing students for adult life.

Due to the needs of the children, the school is looking for an SEN TA with experience in working with children with similar needs. Experience in using PECS and Makaton would be advantageous however the school provides excellent training in all communication aids throughout the year, and has an in house Makaton tutor. You must be patient and maintain a safe and supportive environment throughout the school. This SEN school is looking for someone with excellent communication skills as you would be expected to remain in excellent contact with parents, therapists and teachers.
