Visually Impaired - 1:1 Support

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a Primary School in Ardwick (M13) who are looking for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant who specialises in working with children who use braille and have a visual impairment.

This role has the working hours of 8.30am to 3.30pm, across 5 days of the week, term time only. The position will commence on 4th November 2019 with the view to go onto a longer term basis.

The ability to converse at ease with children and staff members and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement of this post.

The role will entail:

  • Working alongside the main class teacher, aiding in any areas of weakness
  • Helping to raise attainment of the child with special educational needs
  • Working 1:1 with a child with a visual impairment who requires the use of braille
  • Provide emotional support to the child when needed

The ideal candidate would:

  • Be motivated
  • Be dynamic and hard-working
  • Show passion in the area and desire to succeed.
  • Have some prior experience working with children
  • Have good communication and team-working skills
  • Be patient and caring, whilst knowing when to step back and allow the child to be independent
  • Aid the teacher throughout the school day to make sure the classes run smoothly
  • Have the relevant SEN experience in braille and working with children with a visual impairment
