Youth Work Support Assistant

Do you have experience supporting young people in youth work environments? Do you want to take a step into a career in secondary education?

Join a vibrant school in Stockport that are looking to add a Youth Work Support Assistant to their dedicated team of support staff. The role is temporary and full time for the summer term commencing after Easter.

The new Youth Work Support Assistant will work with vulnerable students from residential care backgrounds, youth work backgrounds, SEMH students and students displaying challenging behaviour to promote positive choices surrounding attendance, social interaction and classwork. YWSA’s will be responsible for providing pastoral support and structured intervention sessions to help develop students key skills, raise self-esteem and work to be a positive and professional role model for vulnerable students.

The school wants to promote inclusivity for all and wants every student to receive the same level of education. Their SEN and support staff department are an extremely integral part of the school and its functioning, and the new YWSA will join a highly dedicated and professional team.

Some highlights of this position include:

  • Providing classroom support alongside regular classroom teachers to ensure good behaviour management and create a positive working environment
  • Organising structured academic intervention and pastoral support sessions for vulnerable students
  • Educating students on school behaviour policies and ensuring they understand the behaviour and attainment expected from them
  • Encouraging students to make positive choices surrounding behaviour, social interactions and attendance
  • Forming strong relationships with parents, carers and guardians to keep them updated on progress and any concerns
  • High achieving school in Stockport with student first approach looking to strengthen their support staff
  • Full time temporary position for 1 term commencing after Easter with the opportunity to become permanent in the new academic year
  • Weekly pay of up to GBP350 a week

Candidates should have previous experience working with secondary school children, preferably in secondary schools but also in other roles such as mentoring, tutoring, youth work, support work, residential work, sports coaching etc.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
