THE HEAD TEACHER:
It is very important that you make the right decision when applying for roles, especially when you will be spending a considerable amount of time in a school working with different people - None more so than the HEAD TEACHER. Don't worry though, as the Head teacher of this school is FANTASTIC! First and foremost, she loves her job and has unbelievable passion for how she runs her school. She possesses a very hands on approach in school and will teach when the opportunity arises. She is keen to develop all her practitioners and will spend time reflecting on book scrutiny and lesson observations.
THE SCHOOL:
The school holds an excellent reputation in the local area and is over subscribed- and also within the local cluster group which attracts a good number of applicants for the roles advertised using the local authority jobs board. Currently the school are graded GOOD by Ofsted and a big part of this inspection was centred around the high level of Teaching and Learning and Leadership across school. The children who attend school tend to arrive from working class and lower middle class backgrounds with a good mixture of social backgrounds. As the school is just outside of the town centre, the school doesn't necessarily catch as many children from socially deprived backgrounds and therefore the levels of SEN and Behavioural needs are lower than the National Average. Additionally, the school is commutable by public transport including bus and train routes out of the town centre. The school is smaller than average with a number of mixed year groups. Pupil Premium Funding in school is lower than average and additional support for children through Teaching Assistants is not full time.
THE ROLE:
The role is a fabulous one! A temporary supply contract will be offered from the first week following Octover half term 2019 (28th) and expected to last until the lady returns from Maternity after July 2020. You will be expected to work as part of the small KS1 team, planning and delivering high quality lesson content aimed specifically at 30 children. You will also be expected to undertake full summative and formative assessment points in the period to ensure you are able to plan for next steps in learning. As the children will be moving from EYFS to KS1, there is a huge emphasis on gaining a strucuture to their work around Maths and English as well as foundation subjects. You will need to be confident in the planning and delivery of differentiated Phonics sessions on a daily basis. The school currently use Letters and Sounds and some Jolly Phonics as a scheme for Phonics development. Evidence around your Phonics experience is very important in the recruitment process as the children will be expected to take the Phonics Screening in Summer 2020.
HOW TO APPLY:
Applying is very easy. The vetting process is quick with Teaching Personnel; providing you are able to offer recent and relevant reference details and have a DBS on the Update Service. If you have experience in KS1 and you are looking for guaranteed work from September then DO NOT PUT OFF RINGING THE OFFICE. The school are not against seeing NQTs but added they must have recent experience working in a KS1 setting.
