Unqualified Teaching Assistant

Newport Areal, Full-Time & Part-Time opportunities
  Monday–Friday | Pay Rate £92.63 daily rate
  Hours: 8:30am- 3:30pm
  September Start – End of Academic Year

Join Teaching Personnel as an Unqualified Teaching Assistant to support our secondary schools in Newport.

Are you passionate about helping young people succeed academically, socially, emotionally and want hands on experience in an education environment?

We are working with a well-respected secondary school in Newport who are seeking a dedicated and resilient Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join their team.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people aged 11–16, particularly those who may present with challenging behaviour or barriers to learning. You will play a vital role in helping pupils feel supported, understood and motivated throughout the school day.

The Role:

  • Providing 1:1 classroom support throughout the school day
  • Supporting engagement, focus and participation in lessons
  • Helping the pupil manage emotions, routines and transitions positively
  • Encouraging independence, communication and social development
  • Assisting with schoolwork and adapting support where needed
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams
  • Creating a positive, consistent and encouraging learning environment

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Have studied or studying a relevant subject such as psychology, sports or any core subject etc.
  • Have experience working with children or young people (ie youth work, coaching and support work)
  • Personal or professional experience supporting individuals with additional learning needs.
  • Calm, patient, caring and emotionally resilient
  • Able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations
  • Passionate about supporting children and young people

Requirements (We’ll Help You Get These!)

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything yet — we’ll support you through the process:

  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
  • EWC registration
  • Aged 18+
  • Level 2 Safeguarding training (provided during onboarding)
  • Two professional references covering a minimum of 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
