Teaching Personnel is recruiting Graduate Teaching Assistants to support secondary schools across Newport, helping students achieve their full potential while giving you the chance to develop the skills employers and teacher training providers are looking for.

No previous school experience? No problem. If you have the right attitude, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn, we'll provide the support and training you need.


What You'll Be Doing

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers to support students both academically and emotionally.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small intervention groups
  • Assisting teachers with engaging classroom activities
  • Helping students build confidence and overcome barriers to learning
  • Supporting pupils with ALN, SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and classroom engagement
  • Becoming a positive role model for young people throughout the school day

Every day is different, giving you the opportunity to develop a wide range of classroom and behaviour management skills.

Experience working with children or young people through coaching, tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, youth work, childcare or support work is highly desirable—but not essential.

✅ Requirements

  • Experience working with young people (education, youth work, coaching, etc.) or experience managing/leading groups
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • EWC Registration (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Must be aged 18 or over
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people
