Become a Secondary Teaching Assistant – Make a Real Difference Every Day!

Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay Rate: £92.63 per day
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full Academic Year

Teaching Personnel is working closely with a number of welcoming secondary schools across Newport, recruiting enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join their teams this September.

This is far more than a classroom support role—you'll become a trusted adult, mentor and positive role model, helping students develop academically, socially and emotionally throughout the school day.

Your Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you'll support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small intervention groups
  • Working alongside teachers to deliver engaging lessons
  • Encouraging confidence, independence and participation
  • Supporting pupils with ALN, SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping students stay engaged
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and becoming someone they can rely on
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

No two days are the same, making this a varied and incredibly rewarding opportunity.


Who Are We Looking For?

We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about supporting young people.

Experience is welcomed, but we're also interested in people with transferable skills from backgrounds such as:

  • Teaching Assistant
  • Youth Work
  • Sports Coaching
  • Care & Support Work
  • Residential Childcare
  • Psychology or Education Graduates
  • Mentoring
  • Customer Service or Hospitality
  • Military or Emergency Services

✅ Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Hold (or be willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS Certificate
  • Register with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) (we can help)
  • Complete our free Level 2 Safeguarding Training
  • Provide two professional references covering the last 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
