About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting young people who need additional guidance to succeed in education?

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work within an Alternative Provision Base attached to a secondary school. This rewarding role involves supporting students who may display challenging behaviour, have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, or require additional support to engage positively with education.

The Alternative Provision Base provides a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment where students can continue their learning while developing emotional regulation, confidence, and positive relationships.

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential—both academically and personally.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals considering careers in education, youth work, psychology, counselling, or behaviour support.

  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups within the Alternative Provision Base
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Support students with emotional regulation and engagement in learning
  • Encourage attendance, participation, and positive social interactions
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

✅ What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Have experience working with young people with behavioural, SEMH, or additional learning needs
  • Are calm, patient, resilient, and empathetic
  • Have strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Can build positive relationships and act as a role model for students
  • Are passionate about supporting vulnerable learners
  • Work well as part of a team and can adapt to different situations

Experience in schools, youth work, care work, sports coaching, mentoring, or support work is highly desirable.

Requirements

To be considered for the role, you will need:

(We can help you obtain the below as part of the registration process)
