Job description

1:1 Tutor (Home & School-Based) – Northampton Area

Location: Northampton and surrounding areas
Hours: School hours (typically 9:00am – 3:30pm)
Contract Type: Flexible, Part-Time and Full-Time Opportunities Available

About the Role

We are seeking passionate and experienced 1:1 Tutors to provide personalised educational support to pupils in home and school settings across Northampton and the surrounding areas.

You will work with children and young people who may require additional support due to SEND, SEMH needs, medical conditions, school avoidance, exclusion, or other barriers to learning. The successful candidate will deliver tailored learning programmes designed to help pupils achieve academic success, improve confidence, and re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality one-to-one tuition tailored to individual pupil needs.
  • Plan and adapt lessons in line with the National Curriculum and pupil learning goals.
  • Support pupils in core subjects, including English, Maths, and Science.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, families, schools, and other professionals.
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress.
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
  • Maintain safeguarding standards and professional conduct at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years' teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, or additional learning needs is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs.
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Access to reliable transport and willingness to travel within Northampton and surrounding areas.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working within alternative provision settings.
  • SEN training or relevant specialist qualifications.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
