Job description

Are you passionate about education and skilled at engaging learners outside of traditional classroom settings? We are looking for a committed and adaptable AP Tutor to support students in Middlesbrough who require alternative provision.

About the Role:

This is a rewarding opportunity to work on a one-to-one basis or with small groups of students who are unable to access mainstream education. These may include pupils with behavioural challenges, anxiety, SEN needs, or those at risk of exclusion. You will play a key role in helping them reintegrate into education and reach their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored lessons in core subjects (English, Maths, Science) and/or vocational subjects

  • Plan engaging, differentiated sessions based on each learner’s needs and EHCP (if applicable)

  • Build trusting relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education

  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to families, schools, and local authorities

  • Travel to homes, libraries, or designated learning spaces for in-person tuition

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or substantial tutoring/mentoring experience

  • Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working with children with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is highly desirable

  • An empathetic, patient, and resilient approach

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
