Job description

Are you a passionate and experienced tutor looking to make a real difference in a young person’s life? We are seeking a dedicated LAC Tutor to support Looked After Children in the Middlesbrough area.

About the Role:

As a LAC Tutor, you will provide tailored, one-to-one tuition for children in care who may be struggling to engage in mainstream education. Your role will be crucial in helping these pupils build confidence, close learning gaps, and achieve their academic potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, personalised tutoring sessions in core subjects (English, Maths, and/or Science)

  • Plan and adapt learning materials to suit individual needs and EHCPs where applicable

  • Monitor and report on student progress to carers, Virtual School staff, and education professionals

  • Create a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment

Requirements:

  • Teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or relevant tutoring experience)

  • Strong knowledge of the UK curriculum (KS2–KS4)

  • Experience working with vulnerable young people, particularly Looked After Children, is highly desirable

  • Ability to build rapport, inspire trust, and motivate learners

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
