Job description

We are seeking a dedicated SEND Tutor to join our alternative provision team in Durham. You will work with children and young people on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, delivering personalised learning that supports both academic progress and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver tailored lessons in core subjects (English, Maths, and other areas depending on need).

  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning needs, including SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and other SEND.

  • Provide academic, emotional, and social support to help learners thrive.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with learners, families, and professionals.

  • Monitor and record progress, adapting approaches to ensure successful outcomes.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience with young people with SEND.

  • Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and excellent behaviour management skills.

  • Can adapt quickly and use creative approaches to engage learners.

  • Holds relevant qualifications (QTS desirable but not essential – experience highly valued).

  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
