Job description

1:1 Tutor (Home & School-Based) – Northampton Area

Location: Northampton and surrounding areas
Hours: During school hours (typically 9:00am – 3:30pm)
Contract: Part-Time / Full-Time / Flexible
Pay: Competitive hourly rate 

About the Role

We are seeking experienced and passionate 1:1 Tutors to support pupils across Northampton and surrounding areas in both home and school settings. You will work with children and young people who require personalised educational support due to SEND, SEMH needs, medical conditions, school exclusion, anxiety, or other barriers to learning.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference by delivering tailored learning programmes that help pupils re-engage with education, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 tuition sessions.
  • Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual pupil needs and learning objectives.
  • Teach core subjects, including English, Maths, and Science where appropriate.
  • Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families, schools, and professionals.
  • Maintain safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional standards at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' teaching experience in a school, tutoring, or alternative provision setting.
  • Strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, or additional learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt teaching strategies effectively.
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Access to reliable transport and willingness to travel within Northamptonshire.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience delivering interventions or alternative provision programmes.
  • SEN training or relevant specialist qualifications.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
