Would you like the challenge of assuming a Teaching Assistant post in a successfully inclusive primary in South London?
Responsibilities include-
- Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher
- Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
- Under the direction of a teacher implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
- Understand Individual Education Plans & Behaviour Support Plans and assist to implement these, under the guidance of the teacher
Support for Teachers -
- Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
- Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
- Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be
- Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and accurately record and feedback to the teacher as directed
- Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
- Work within an established behaviour and anti-bullying policy to manage behaviour constructively
- Invigilate exams
- Provide administrative support, e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money, administer coursework
- Undertake pupil record keeping as requested
Support for the Curriculum -
- Support pupils to understand instructions
- Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses
- Support pupil's learning either individually or in small groups inside or outside the classroom as directed by the teacher / senior member of staff
- Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use a good level of education to include at least GCSE level Maths and English is essential
- A-level, Degree, diploma or other recognised professional qualification in a relevant area is desirable.
Education/Training -
- Good organisational skills including the ability to plan, prioritise, work to deadline and manage time effectively
- Good IT skills - that must include ability to use Microsoft Office products and Outlook
- Be able to communicate effectively to students, parents and other colleagues orally and in writing
- Have a basic understanding of data and how it can be used to support student learning
- Has previous similar experience working in a school (voluntary or paid)
- Experience of analysing numerical data (statistics) and presenting it in readily accessible formats (Excel etc.)
- First Aid Qualification
Knowledge -
- A sound knowledge and interest in Art and Design Technology.
- A basic knowledge of policy and issues surrounding education
- Desirable
- Knowledge or experience of working in similar educational organisations o
- An understanding of the EYFS, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and SEN
