Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are looking for a full-time permanent teaching assistant who loves working with children. You will be supporting SEN Pupils who are Secondary aged with ASC needs. The school is in Lymington, Hampshire and is rated “Outstanding” by OFSTED.

You will work 1:1 with individual pupils with SEN inside and outside the classroom, being an aid in their learning and managing their behaviour. You will monitor the pupils’ progress and report it to their class teacher, providing feedback and discussing solutions to help them succeed and excel. As some pupils will have come from difficult backgrounds, it is essential you are patient and empathetic.

The ideal applicant must have previous experience working with children or young people, ideally in a school setting but not necessary.

The pupils have a range of needs including:

• Severe Learning Difficulties
• Autism
• Aspergers
• Communication difficulties

You will need to be:

• Fun and creative, happy to get involved in messy play and creative subjects
• An excellent communicator
• Someone who can think outside of the box
• Have a resilient personality
• Experienced in working within schools previously
• Have some knowledge of special educational needs

Responsibilities of the role involve:

• Supporting Secondary aged pupils who have a range of special educational needs
• Supporting pupils on a 1-1 basis where necessary
• Learning about PECS and Makaton 
• Working alongside other staff to achieve the best outcomes for pupils
• Getting involved in a range of subjects including Art, DT, Outdoor Education, PE and Core Subjects

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
