An Outstanding School in Harrogate are seeking a Teaching Assistant. The school provides alternative education for pupils aged 2-19, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to meet their needs.
Your role will be to provide targeted intervention for pupils within the secondary base (KS3 & KS4) who may display aggression and exhibit challenging behaviour. As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, your key duties will include:
- Establishing supportive relationships with pupils
- Encouraging pupils to interact with each other in a positive, appropriate and acceptable manner
- Monitor pupils’ response to learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve intended learning outcomes
- Providing positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain pupils’ efforts and develop self reliance and self esteem
- Marking pupils’ work under the direction of the class teacher
- Supporting in developing social skills both in and out of the classroom
- Providing regular feedback on learning and behaviour to the teacher/SENCO, including feedback on the effectiveness of the behaviour strategies adopted
- Where appropriate, to know and apply positive handling techniques (Team Teach)
- Where appropriate to develop a relationship to foster links between home and school, and to keep the school informed of relevant information
- Providing playground/break time supervision
