Job description

We are seeking compassionate, enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding role where you will play a key part in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and independence — helping them grow in confidence and thrive both academically and socially.

The school is a successful and welcoming specialist school for children and young people aged 4–19 with autism, speech, language and communication needs, and a range of learning difficulties.

We are a vibrant, child-centred specialist setting located in beautiful Somerset countryside near Shepton Mallet. We are proud of our strong sense of community, our inclusive ethos, and our commitment to helping every pupil reach their full potential.

What You’ll Do

  • Support pupils in the classroom, in small groups, and during individual learning activities
  • Help deliver engaging lessons, adapting learning to meet pupils’ needs
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, using a calm and supportive approach
  • Assist with behaviour regulation and communication strategies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff
  • Encourage independence, life skills and confidence in a nurturing environment

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants with a positive attitude, resilience and a genuine desire to support young people. Experience in SEND, autism support or education is essential.

You will be:

  • Patient, caring and committed to inclusive education
  • Able to work well as part of a team
  • Willing to learn new skills and approaches
  • Ready to make every day meaningful for the pupils you support

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
