Teaching Assistants Required – Carmarthenshire
Supply Work | Immediate Start | Teaching Personnel
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting Teaching Assistants to work on a supply basis across Carmarthenshire. We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable individuals to support pupils in Secondary Schools and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) schools, starting as soon as possible.
Due to the nature of supply work across multiple settings, driving and access to a vehicle is essential.
About the Role
This is a flexible supply role, ideal for those looking to gain experience across different school environments or maintain a healthy work–life balance while working in education.
You may work in:

Secondary mainstream schools
-
Additional Learning Needs (ALN) schools and provisions
Placements may be short-term, long-term, or day-to-day depending on school needs and your availability.
Secondary School Teaching Assistant – Role Summary
As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will:
-
Support pupils aged 11–16 (or 18) in classroom settings
-
Work alongside teachers to deliver lesson support
-
Provide one-to-one or small group assistance
-
Help manage behaviour and encourage engagement
-
Support pupils with additional needs within a mainstream environment
This role suits individuals confident working with adolescents and supporting learning across a range of subjects.
Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Teaching Assistant – Role Summary
As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you will:
-
Support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
-
Work in specialist schools or ALN units
-
Provide tailored support to meet individual learning, emotional, or behavioural needs
-
Assist with personal care where required (training provided if needed)
-
Use strategies to support communication, regulation, and independence
This role is ideal for those with a passion for SEN support and a patient, nurturing approach.
Essential Requirements
-
Driving licence and access to a vehicle
-
Experience working with children or young people (school or care setting)
-
A positive, adaptable and proactive attitude
-
Ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
-
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Relevant Qualifications (Desirable)
-
Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
-
CACHE, NVQ, or equivalent childcare/education qualification
-
GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
-
Team Teach or other behaviour support training (beneficial but not essential)
SEN / ALN Experience (Highly Desirable)
-
Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties
-
Background in SEN schools, care settings, or youth work
-
Understanding of individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
