Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Autism Support
Location: Cwmbran, South Wales
Sector: Secondary Education
Salary: From £12.90 per hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Start Date: ASAP

Are you looking for a fulfilling and fast-paced role within a secondary school setting? Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant to work in an Autism Support Base (ASB) at a well-regarded secondary school in Cwmbran. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and contributing to a positive educational environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism in a dedicated ASD unit.

  • Create a calm, encouraging, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, tailored learning activities.

  • Offer emotional and social support to help pupils build confidence and independence.

  • Help prepare classroom resources and learning materials.

  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behaviour management policies.


✅ What We're Looking For:

  • Empathetic, resilient, and committed to making a difference.

  • Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) (preferred, but not essential).

  • Must have the Right to Work in the UK.

  • Hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS Certificate (we can assist).

  • Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).

  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months.

  • Willing to complete Level 2 Safeguarding Training (provided by us).

About the School:

Located in the heart of Cwmbran, this inclusive secondary school supports pupils aged 11 to 16. The school features two specialist bases—one for pupils with hearing impairments and another for students with autism. You will join a caring and supportive team committed to helping every learner thrive.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
