Future Teachers Programme – Weymouth

Programme Structure: Year 1 – Paid School Experience | Year 2 – Salaried Teacher Training (QTS Route)
Overview
Teaching Personnel is seeking motivated graduates interested in beginning a career in education. The Future Teachers Programme offers a structured two-year pathway designed to provide in-school experience prior to entering a salaried teacher training route. This programme is ideal for individuals wishing to gain practical classroom exposure before progressing into formal Initial Teacher Training (ITT).
Programme Structure
Year 1: School-Based Experience (Cover Supervisor Role)
Participants will be placed in a secondary school in Weymouth, working as Cover Supervisors. Responsibilities include:
- Supervising classes during teacher absence
- Delivering pre-prepared materials set by the class teacher
- Managing behaviour in line with school policies
- Supporting the wider teaching staff where required
This role does not involve lesson planning, marking, or direct teaching, allowing graduates to build confidence and understand the operational structure of a school before moving into teacher training.
Year 2: Salaried Teacher Training Route
Graduates who successfully complete Year 1 will progress into a fully salaried ITT position. This second year includes:
- Working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Ongoing mentoring and professional support
- The potential to complete a PGCE alongside QTS
- Consistent development within the same school or trust
This ensures a seamless transition from classroom experience to formal training.
Candidate Profile

- The ability to manage a classroom environment with confidence
All subject backgrounds are considered, including (but not limited to): English, Maths, Science, Humanities, MFL, and Technology.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
