This summer they were delighted to continue their improvement and celebrate, as a school, 70% of students achieved at least a pass grade in the new GCSE English and mathematics, with a greater number of students than ever achieving A*/A grades.

The main aims of the English department are:

1. To encourage pupils to develop a lasting interest in language and literature
2. To help pupils achieve a technical competence in reading and writing.
3. To encourage reading for pleasure.
4. To help pupils develop, and learn to adapt, their written and spoken communication skills
5. To prepare pupils thoroughly for public examinations.
6. To make a contribution to a pupil's overall cultural and personal development.
