Support Worker

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced SEN Support Worker within a Special School in the St Austell area. There are approximately 250 pupils on roll, aged between 3 and 19. The school benefits from partnerships with local primary and secondary schools, and pupils are able to access mainstream lessons when attending these sites.

We require a skilled, enthusiastic Support Worker who is able to support teaching and learning and address the personal needs of pupils. You must be flexible, resilient, willing to learn and have excellent communication skills.

You will be required to attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, and first aid and welfare matters. You will support pupils who may have complex medical needs and who may need emergency medical support. You may also work with pupils who require additional support with communication, including those with a mechanical system of communication such as PECs. Experience using Makaton and/or BSL would also be an advantage, but is not essential.

The post holder may be required to provide physical intervention to pupils at risk of harming themselves or others (e.g. nipping, biting, kicking punching), so additional training in Team Teach or other relevant accredited training would be beneficial (training can be provided where necessary).

You will have the ability to establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding appropriately to individual needs.

This role is full time 5 days a week however a job share would be considered.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
