Teaching Assistant – Outreach Experience

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Outreach Worker or Youth Worker who is confident supporting young people with additional needs and barriers to education?
We are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant with outreach experience to join a High School in the PR3 area of Preston. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about making a difference to young people who may find it difficult to engage with mainstream education.
The Role
Working closely with the school's SEND and pastoral teams, you will support pupils who may present with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, low engagement or difficulties accessing their education.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils
- Supporting students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education
- Using your outreach experience to encourage attendance, engagement and positive outcomes
- Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs
- Managing challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
- Helping pupils regulate their emotions and successfully engage with learning
- Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff
- Supporting pupils both academically and pastorally
Who Are We Looking For?
We would love to hear from candidates with previous experience working as a:
- Teaching Assistant
- Outreach Worker
- Behaviour Mentor
- Pastoral Support Worker
- Youth Worker
- Learning Mentor
- SEMH Support Worker
You will need to be patient, resilient and approachable, with the ability to build rapport with young people who may initially be reluctant to engage.
Experience working with secondary-aged pupils and young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
