Support Manager (SEMH)
Job description
Job Title: Temporary Support Manager (Maternity Cover)
Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire
Salary Range: £28,598 – £31,022 per annum (full-time), term time only
Contract: Full time, temporary (maternity cover)
About the Setting
This specialist provision operates as a short-term alternative placement unit for pupils who are temporarily removed from mainstream school due to significant social, emotional, mental health or behavioural challenges. Located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, the site offers a calm, structured environment designed to support young people in transition, helping them to re-engage with learning and move successfully back to their mainstream or next placement. The pupils typically present with complex needs including social, emotional, communication and interaction difficulties (SECID) and often join the unit at a point when their needs are disrupting standard classroom provision. Staff work with urgency, care and precision to restore stability, embed positive routines and support reintegration into mainstream or specialist pathways.
This role could be a great step up for a very experienced member of school support staff or a break from the classroom for trained teachers.

The successful applicant will take on the key role of Support Manager, overseeing day-to-day operational leadership of the provision during the maternity absence of the current post-holder. The post-holder will support the Team Leader to implement ongoing behavioural interventions, maintain effective communication across staff, pupils and external stakeholders, and ensure that the therapeutic environment remains safe, consistent and purposeful. This is a high-impact role suited to a candidate with strong leadership capability, experience in behaviour management and a genuine commitment to improving the life chances of young people who have experienced disruption to their education.

-
Lead and mentor staff, modelling best practice in behaviour support and facilitating team coherence.
Person Specification

Significant experience working with young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs, ideally in an alternative provision or specialist educational setting.
-
Proven leadership or supervisory experience, able to motivate and support a team under challenging circumstances.

-
Resilience, flexibility and a calm, consistent approach under pressure.
-
Commitment to upholding high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management and inclusive support.
What the Provision Offers

A meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to a transformative educational setting, where staff see immediate impact on young people’s lives.
