The varied and challenging role of a School Support Assistant is ideal for anyone hoping to make a positive impact on the lives of children, young people and families.
As a Support Assistant in a Specialist School you will be supporting children and young people that have faced challengers such as:
- anti-social behaviour and criminal activity, such as a parent in prison
- behaviour and social interaction
- bereavement and caring responsibilities
- bullying
- domestic violence and abuse
- drug and alcohol addiction
- education and learning
- physical and mental health issues, disabilities and learning difficulties.
Although entry routes into support assistant roles are varied, typically, we look for a qualification in one of the following:
- Childcare
- Education
- Youth Work
- Sports Coaching
- Community work
- Counselling
- Health & Social care
Schools will also expect knowledge of safeguarding practices and procedures, we have access to a CPD academy and offer a free safeguarding course as well as access to many other courses such as behaviour management.
What will you be doing?
Every day is different in the school, but put simply you will be supporting children who are unable to access mainstream education, making learning fun and engaging. Ensuring they can learn in the safe environment. Getting to know the pupils and spotting triggers and preventing crisis.
