Teaching Personnel are seeking a Sports Specialist for a unique opportunity in an alternative education provision near Huddersfield.

Our client is a specialist provision for Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. All pupils have a Statement or EHCP, which are related to their SEMH needs. Many pupils have secondary needs relating to cognition and learning, communication and interaction and sensory/ physical needs.

We are seeking an individual with a background in Sports, to support the most vulnerable learners to re-engage with education; offering a range of vocational, practical activities. You will use sport as a motivational tool, linking to core subjects and learning activities both inside and outside the classroom. You will also have the opportunity to support pupils during Physical Education sessions and those who have chosen P.E. as a GCSE option.

In addition to the above, you will be required to effectively support pupils during lessons, working under the direction of classroom teachers to deliver a unique and highly specialist curriculum which incorporates communication, health and wellbeing, identity, relationships, and the wider world. The overall purpose of the curriculum is to prepare pupils for adulthood through a positive and supportive framework that helps to develop:

  • Confident individuals - who lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
  • Successful learners - who enjoy school, make great progress and achieve a range of qualifications
  • Responsible citizens - who make productive contributions to society

We are seeking an individual who can engage with and motivate pupils, and effectively support challenging behaviour. You will build partnerships with parents and carers that are based on honesty, trust and mutual respect with the purpose of supporting the academic, vocational, personal and emotional development of a key group of pupils.

You key responsibilities will include:

  • Offer targeted support for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
  • Raise aspirations, inspire pupils to chase and achieve their dreams and challenge stereotyping
  • Support pupils to access a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs
  • Provide opportunities and facilities for pupils to develop special interests and talents through a range of extra-curricular activities
  • Support pupils to make successful transitions into employment, education or training
  • Provide a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum that supports all pupils to push the boundaries of their potential
  • Promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils
  • Offer an extended enrichment programme that develops pupils' confidence and helps engender an appreciation and enjoyment of human creativity and achievement
  • Provide pupils with the essential knowledge and skills they need to be good citizens and make the most of the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life

You will be confident in working with young people who can exhibit challenging behaviours and will be prepared to implement a range of holistic strategies including Nurture, Social Pedagogy, Team Teach, and Restorative Practice.

Nestled between the villages of Scissett and Skelmanthorpe, our partner school is set in approximately six acres of attractive grounds. The school is easily accessible from Huddersfield, Wakefield, Leeds and Barnsley, with good rail and road links, including easy access to the M1, A1(M) and M62.
