  • Adapt teaching resources and strategies to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Support the development of literacy, numeracy, communication and independent living skills where appropriate.
  • Use positive reinforcement and supportive behaviour management techniques.
  • Help pupils build confidence, resilience, independence and social skills.
  • Monitor progress and adjust learning plans to achieve realistic targets.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, schools and other professionals involved in the pupil’s education.
  • Maintain accurate records of sessions, attendance and progress.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Experience and Specialisms

We welcome applications from tutors with experience supporting pupils with:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Dyslexia and dyspraxia.
  • Speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Learning disabilities and developmental needs.
  • Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA).
  • Behavioural and emotional difficulties.

Experience delivering primary, secondary, GCSE or Functional Skills tuition is also beneficial.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience in the UK.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships and engage learners with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication, patience and organisational skills.
  • Confidence in adapting learning activities and managing challenging behaviour positively.
  • The ability to travel to assignments across Luton and nearby areas.
  • An Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

A relevant teaching qualification, such as QTS, PGCE or a recognised SEND qualification, is desirable but not essential.

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to pupils’ lives.
  • Individualised teaching opportunities in a variety of settings.
  • Potential for ongoing work and permanent placements.

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

TP Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All educators are subject to safeguarding checks in line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). This may also include an online search as part of our safer recruitment process.

All educators must complete our annual tuition training programme, covering Safeguarding, Prevent Duty, KCSIE, Allergy Awareness, and Child-on-Child Abuse Awareness. Tutors must also hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid Child-only Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service, with full guidance provided.

Many pupils supported by TP Tutors require tailored educational provision. Tutors should be confident in building positive relationships, adapting their approach to meet individual needs, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and safeguarding at all times. Tutors must also be able to effectively plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet the learner’s individual needs, monitor progress, and adapt teaching strategies to support positive outcomes.
