About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher to join a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Cardiff. This rewarding role involves supporting learners who require alternative educational provision due to social, emotional, behavioural, or medical needs.

You will work with pupils who may experience anxiety, school-based trauma, complex behavioural challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, and complex medical conditions that have impacted their access to mainstream education. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering engaging, individualised learning programmes that help pupils rebuild confidence, develop resilience, and achieve positive educational outcomes.

A key aspect of this role is establishing supportive and trusting relationships with learners, creating a safe and nurturing environment where pupils feel understood, respected, and motivated to engage in learning. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including pastoral staff, healthcare professionals, families, and external agencies, to ensure each pupil receives the support they need to succeed.

Requirements

• Experience working with pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), SEMH needs, or in alternative education settings.
• Previous experience within a PRU, specialist provision, SEN school, or supporting learners with complex needs is desirable.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and relationship-based approaches to behaviour support.
• Experience supporting pupils with anxiety, emotional wellbeing needs, and complex behavioural challenges.
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning, social, emotional, and medical needs.
• A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with pupils, families, and colleagues.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
• Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
