Specialist Behaviour Support Assistant
During the coronavirus pandemic, secondary students have missed an unprecedented amount of classroom learning. As students return and engagement is low, the demand for Behaviour Support has risen.
Our partner school in the High Peak District has advised us they’re looking to strengthen their team of support staff with the addition of a Specialist Behaviour Support Assistant to support students struggling with engagement and displaying challenging behaviour. The role will be full time and initially temporary for the summer term, with the opportunity to extend to permanent in the new academic year.
The successful candidate will work with students in class alongside regular teachers to promote positive behaviour, creating a good working environment for the whole class. Specialist BSA’s will also work alongside SEN coordinators to organise pastoral support sessions and carry out structured academic intervention to help students achieve their academic potential.
Some highlights of this position include:
- Supporting students displaying challenging behaviour in the classroom alongside regular classroom teachers
- Organising pastoral support and academic intervention sessions for vulnerable students alongside SEN coordinators
- Working with SEN and SEMH students as well as students from youth work or residential care backgrounds
- Liaising with parents, carers, guardians to provide academic updates and behavioural progress reports
- Join a dedicated team of SEN coordinators and support staff looking to strengthen their behaviour support to help students reengage
Candidate requirements for this role:
- Past experience supporting secondary school children – mentoring, tutoring, youth working, residential care work
- Experience supporting students with SEN and SEMH requirements, as well as children with challenging behaviour
- Fundamentally calm and resilient candidates
- Desire to get into career in education
- Suitable employment references with no safeguarding concerns
- Child workforce DBS certificate on the update service (Or eligibility to apply for one)
The schools location in North Derbyshire makes this opportunity ideal for candidates local to Glossop and its surrounding areas. Candidates could also travel from nearby Ashton-Under-Lyne and Stockport.
