Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking Teaching Assistants in the Portsmouth and surrounding area to work in SEN specialist schools catering to pupils with moderate to complex learning and physical needs. The needs of attending pupils are varied, but may include:

• Autism and ADHD
• Learning and physical difficulties
• Speech and language difficulties
• Anti-social and disengaged behaviour
• Sensory and emotional needs

The Role:

You will be working in a classroom assisting the class teacher on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis with pupils, as well as in groups. You will assist in carrying out the prepared curriculum and aid pupils in their learning and development. You will also be participating in class activities and assisting with pupils individual education plans. School hours fall between 8:30 - 15:30, Monday - Friday. Should you only be available on a part time basis or have an interest in day to day supply, we are able to help with this as well.

The Candidate:

Ideal applicants should have previous experience working with complex behaviour or special educational needs professionally. Without professional experience, any personal experience with the following could help you to succeed in this role:

• Youth/Community work experience
• Care worker
• Challenging behaviour within family
• Mentoring
• SEN Experience

You should have a passion for working with children and have a positive and bubbly attitude. You will need to be able to use your initiative and work well in a team.
