Special Needs Support Worker – Bridgend
We currently have a full time and long-term job available for an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to work within a Special School in Bridgend. Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit as soon as possible as this role is to start immediately and is full time.
What you need to know about the role of a Special Needs Support Worker :
The successful Special Needs Classroom Assistant will be under the direction of the class Teacher, you will be working on a 1:1 basis with a Year 7 pupil with Autism. You will be a member of a supportive class team who adapt the lessons within the school accordingly.
As a positive role model, you will work to support the pupil in all aspects of their school life. This will include supporting them with their work, engaging them to keep focused and on task, to complete activities in line with learning goals. You will also help the child to appropriately engage with others, including participation in group activities. As you get to know the child, you will develop an understanding of the child’s likes and interests, and use these as a means of engaging the child. You will be effective in managing the child’s behaviour and in developing an effective working relationship, setting and maintaining boundaries, and supporting the child in adhering to them. You will be positive in nature and will use praise and encouragement to help build the child’s confidence, both in their achievements with their work, and with social interaction.
The Successful Special Needs Support Worker will have;
- Experience in supporting a child/children with Autism or Additional Learning Needs within a similar environment. Personal & Professional experience are considered equally.
- Strong behaviour management skills – the ability to be firm but fair and set boundaries
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to build strong working relationships with the pupil, other pupils within the class, as well as the staff
- A positive and enthusiastic nature and the ability to be a good role model to the pupil
- A genuine desire to work with children with additional needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
