Special Needs Support assistant

Date posted : 03/06/20
£400 - 500 per week + depending on experience

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

A Primary school in Harehills (LS8) are in need of someone to provide specialist 1-2-1 SEN support from when school returns in September until the end of the winter term (Christmas 2020).  However, this role could extend to a 1 year contract. If you are experienced in SEN support in any capacity, then get in touch as this role could be ideal for you.

A SEN TA is required for a Year 6 child with autism, meaning he needs full-time support when in school. This involves both facilitating his learning in class and accompanying and supporting him if he needs to leave class from time to time. A more specialist SEN TA is needed as the school has managed to secure extra funding until the Christmas holidays for the student in question, at which point the spending will be reviewed and extended depending on its effectiveness. A 1-2-1 member of staff is required in addition to the class’s TA to provide more specialist and tailored support, where one class TA simply isn’t sufficient.

The school’s only absolute requirement is that the candidate is experienced and confident in providing 1-2-1 SEN support. This is because the child has to be taken from class quite regularly and the member of staff must be trusted to handle this appropriately. 1-2-1 support in any capacity such as specialist SEN provisions, PRUs, the care industry or behavioural support would therefore go a long way of assuring the school in this case. Any experience specific to Autism or supporting children at this very formative age would also be a significant bonus to any candidate’s application. The child also has some SEMH needs and a challenging upbringing, so the school require someone who is confident in handling this with sensitivity and working with the family to integrate the child into mainstream education as effectively as possible. The more varied the experience the better.

The school received GOOD at its last Ofsted in 2017, and the Head is very welcoming and supportive of new staff.

If you are interested in this role interviews will be taking place within the next 2-3 weeks at the school with the Head Teacher and Assistant Head.
