Teaching Personnel's SEN Team are seeking a Special Needs Assistant on a full time basis this term.

Our client is a generic, all age special school based in the Clayton area of Bradford. The school offers an alternative, sensory based curriculum for pupils aged 3-19. There are 80 pupils on roll, with a range of complex needs including Autism, Severe Learning Disabilities and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

As a Special Needs Assistant, you will offer support and guidance to young people who experience difficulties with their learning. You will work closely with individuals who are struggling with social, emotional or mental health issues that affect their ability to learn.

You will work alongside teachers and other staff, determining the needs of learners who require help and how to overcome barriers that are preventing them from achieving their full potential. You'll work with a range of learners, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages.

Your duties will include:

  • Liaising with staff to identify learners who would benefit from specialist support
  • Implementing strategies and supporting learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities
  • Liaising with relevant professionals and individuals, e.g. educational psychologists, the police and social services
  • Setting up breakfast and after-school clubs as well as running extracurricular activities, such as homework clubs, reading clubs, sports, music and discos, during lunchtimes or as out-of-school activities
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports and evaluations
  • Managing your own professional development through undertaking relevant training and sharing best practice with other support assistants

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, organisation and the resilience to support learners with additional needs.

Applications will be welcomed from individuals with both professional and personal experience with young people or adults with Special Educational needs. We would also like to hear from you if you have experience or training in:

  • Early childhood education
  • Psychology
  • Social science
  • Youth, community or Social Work

For more information, or to apply for this role, please contact Rebecca Holden on the details provided.
