SEMH Teaching Assistant 
Location: Chorley, Lancashire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £13.75 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: Temp-to-perm opportunity for the successful applicant
Start Date: ASAP

We are looking for a passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and dedicated team within a Secondary Alternative Provision in Chorley.

This role is ideal for someone with strong behaviour management, a great sense of humour, and the ability to build strong rapport with students. The successful candidate will work closely with young people who have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have had negative experiences in mainstream education.

Your role will be to rebuild trust in learning, promote emotional regulation, and support students in re-engaging with education in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in both group and 1:1 settings.

  • Assist in creating and delivering tailored interventions.

  • Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning atmosphere.

  • Work alongside teachers and other professionals to meet individual needs.

  • Help remove barriers to learning and encourage positive engagement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong behaviour management and the ability to de-escalate situations calmly.

  • A positive, resilient attitude and a good sense of humour.

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.

  • Ability to build trusting relationships and encourage student growth.

  • Commitment to supporting long-term change and personal development.
