Do you have experience supporting children or young people with communication difficulties, learning needs, or additional support requirements? Whether you're a trained professional or someone with transferable experience (care work, youth work, SEN support, etc.), we want to hear from you!

We’re working with welcoming, inclusive schools in Stevenage looking for SLCN Support Assistants to join their teams. In this role, you’ll help children with Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN) gain confidence, develop their communication skills, and thrive in school.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting children with SLCN both in class and in small-group or 1:1 sessions

  • Helping implement individual support plans (you’ll be guided every step of the way)

  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and speech therapists

  • Encouraging and motivating students to express themselves and participate fully in school life

  • Monitoring progress and celebrating small victories every day


✔️ What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience with SEN or communication needs (formal or informal – we value all relevant backgrounds)

  • A positive, patient, and proactive approach to working with children

  • Ability to build trust and strong relationships with students

  • Great communication and teamwork skills

  • A DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one


Ideal (But Not Essential):

  • A background in Speech and Language Therapy, Education, Psychology, or similar

  • Additional training in communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, Attention Autism)

  • Experience supporting children with ASD, developmental delay, or language difficulties

About the Role:

  • Based in Stevenage – some roles may involve visiting nearby schools

  • Full-time, school hours: approx. 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

  • Start dates available immediately or in the few weeks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
