Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Penzance, Cornwall
Start Date: Immediate and September 2025 starts available
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 30.5 hours per week | Term-time only (39 weeks + holiday entitlement)
Salary: £17,910 actual (FTE £24,926)

Teaching Personnel is working on behalf of a highly regarded SEN school in Penzance, Cornwall, to recruit multiple dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants.

This exciting opportunity comes as part of a planned expansion and an increase in pupil numbers from September 2024. The school provides a high-quality, individualised education for young people aged 3–19 with moderate to complex learning difficulties, in a setting that places well-being, progress, and personal development at the heart of its practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with severe and complex needs in accessing learning and personal development opportunities.

  • Work closely with teachers and multi-agency teams to implement individual learning plans and care strategies.

  • Foster inclusive relationships that promote confidence, independence, and self-esteem.

  • Provide personal care and support medical needs, where appropriate (full training provided).

  • Assist with behaviour management using trauma-informed and proactive strategies.

  • Accompany students on school trips and off-site activities where required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A warm, empathetic, and resilient individual with a genuine interest in supporting children and young people.

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or challenging behaviours is desirable.

  • Adaptability and teamwork; able to support across different age groups and levels of need.

  • Commitment to continuous professional development – all staff receive training including safeguarding, Team Teach, and medical care.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
