Location: Penzance Area, Cornwall
Start Date: 3rd September 2025
Salary: £17,910.96 actual (£24,926 FTE)
Contract: Permanent | 30.5 hours/week | Term time only (39 weeks + holiday entitlement)

About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in the Penzance area. The school provides high-quality, inclusive education for pupils aged 3-19 with a range of moderate to complex learning difficulties. This rewarding role will suit someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with a variety of learning needs, including complex physical, medical, and behavioural challenges.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement personalised learning strategies.
  • Assist with personal care, therapy support (e.g., physiotherapy, speech and language), and medical needs where required (training will be provided).
  • Promote independence, communication, and social interaction.
  • Contribute to classroom preparation, resource development, and the creation of a safe, engaging learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable.
  • A warm, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with vulnerable pupils.
  • Willingness to undergo relevant training, including safeguarding, TeamTeach, medical, and personal care procedures.
  • Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths; a relevant childcare or education qualification is an advantage.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
