SEN Teaching Assistant - Stoke-on-Trent

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Stoke-on-Trent from September. This is a full-time position running until the Christmas break in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension for the right candidate.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them to access education, develop independence, and achieve their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with a variety of special educational needs, which may include:

• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
• Communication and Interaction Needs
• Complex Learning Needs

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing one-to-one and small group support.
• Assisting pupils with their learning, emotional regulation, and social development.
• Implementing individual education and behaviour support plans.
• Supporting pupils with personal care where required.
• Encouraging engagement and participation within lessons and activities.
• Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
• Promoting a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in schools or other settings.
• Demonstrates patience, empathy, and resilience.
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Is proactive, adaptable, and committed to supporting individual needs.
• Holds a Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience (desirable but not essential).
