Sen Teaching Assistant
Job description
An inspiring opportunity is available for a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Street, Somerset on a full-time basis from September 2026, with the potential to begin earlier.
This setting caters for children and young people with a broad range of additional needs and is looking for an individual who can provide encouragement, structure and consistency throughout the school day.
Pupils within the provision may present with autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, sensory processing difficulties, speech and language challenges and learning disabilities.
The school places great emphasis on relationship-building, emotional wellbeing and creating a positive learning culture where every pupil feels understood.
Responsibilities
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to help pupils access education in a way that suits their individual needs.
You will support both classroom-based learning and social development, while helping students regulate emotions and engage positively with their surroundings.
• Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and within small groups
• Assisting with communication and engagement strategies
• Encouraging independence and life skills development
• Supporting personal care where required
• Implementing behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
• Preparing learning resources and adapting activities
• Contributing towards progress monitoring and safeguarding procedures
• Assisting during enrichment sessions and outdoor learning activities

Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will be caring, proactive and able to build positive professional relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning.
Previous experience in education, support work, care or youth services would be beneficial, although transferable skills and the right attitude are equally valued.
You should demonstrate:

• Patience, empathy and resilience
• Confidence supporting challenging behaviour positively
• A team-focused approach
• Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
• Willingness to learn and develop professionally

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
