Teaching Assistant (SEN) – Portsmouth
Term Time Only | £13.75 per hour
Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join an SEN school in Portsmouth. This role offers a valuable opportunity to support pupils with a variety of special educational needs in an inclusive and nurturing environment. The position is term-time only with a competitive hourly rate of £13.75.
Role Overview:
As a Teaching Assistant within an SEN school, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of pupils with diverse needs. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to deliver tailored support, enabling pupils to engage fully in the curriculum and make meaningful progress.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct support to pupils with special educational needs, including those with learning difficulties, social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), and communication challenges

Assist in the preparation and delivery of differentiated learning activities to meet individual pupil requirements

Support pupils’ social and emotional development, fostering a positive and safe learning environment

Help implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies

Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to support holistic pupil development
Candidate Requirements:
-
Experience working with children with SEN is desirable, though not essential

Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable learners

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
