Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant – September Start
Location: Poole
Salary: £89.38-£95 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025

Are you a qualified and caring Teaching Assistant with experience in SEN environments? Are you looking for a fresh opportunity this September where you can make a real difference?

We’re looking for a passionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school community Poole. This is a chance to support children who need extra help to thrive — academically, socially, and emotionally.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with class teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance to pupils with a range of special educational needs. This may include autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or physical disabilities. Your day-to-day work will involve helping children engage with learning, manage routines, and develop confidence — in and out of the classroom.

This role may also involve supporting pupils with personal care and mobility needs, so a willingness to assist with manual handling is essential. Full guidance and training can be provided where needed.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting children on a one-to-one basis or in small groups

  • Helping pupils engage with classwork using adapted strategies

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing

  • Assisting with physical support needs, including manual handling

What We’re Looking For:

  • A qualified Teaching Assistant (Level 2 or 3, or equivalent)

  • Experience working with children with SEN

  • A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach

  • Willingness to support with personal care and manual handling tasks

  • Strong communication skills and a team-player mindset

  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain one)

Bonus If You Have:

  • Experience supporting children with physical disabilities

  • Familiarity with communication aids like PECS or Makaton

  • Previous work in specialist school settings or SEN units

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a dedicated, supportive school team

  • Make a lasting difference to children’s lives every single day

  • Access ongoing support and professional development

  • Opportunities for long-term roles and career progression
