Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a Full-Time Primary School Teaching Assistant.

Also known as classroom assistants, TA’s support learning activities in schools. The work involves supporting children individually or in small groups. Generally, TA’s work exclusively with pupils with special educational needs (SEN) or those pupils who may have a range of learning and/or behavioural difficulties.

The primary school is medium sized and situated in a friendly community of Oxford. You would be required to work term time only from Monday to Friday and the hours would be around 8.30am until 3.30pm.

What the role requires:

  • An understanding of the TA role assisting and supervising pupils on particular tasks and the expected outcomes of individual activities within the allocated timescale
  • To be calm under pressure, adaptable and enthusiastic
  • To be compassionate and have a positive attitude
  • Good listening skills and to be sensitive to pupils individuals needs
  • Positive behaviour management skills
  • Understanding of SEN
  • Knowledge of a range of learning support needs

What you will be doing:

  • Making sure pupils that you support can engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity
  • Supporting with Literacy and Maths and helping to explain how to apply what they have learnt in lesson
  • Providing supervision during break/lunch times as required
  • Listening to pupils read and read to pupils as a class, group or one-to-one
  • Guiding and monitoring pupil progress
  • Undertaking a variety of duties that free up a teacher's time, such as preparing the classroom

For the role ideally you should aim to have basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE or equivalent, in Maths and English) but this is not always required if you have previously worked with children. Classroom experience is desired but also not essential.
