SEN Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are looking for a Teacher to work in a specialist school for Hearing Impaired Learners.

The school caters for deaf children aged 3-19 with equal access to language (English and BSL), literacy and numeracy and all curriculum areas. The school we are working on behalf of are OFSTED rated 'Good'.

Applicants should be good practitioners with high expectations of learning and behaviour, a proven record of delivering quality teaching and learning to young people with a wide range of abilities from Entry Level to Level Three. Applicants should also be able to engage learners with social and emotional difficulties in a purposeful learning environment where opportunities to progress are exploited. Learning in their small classes is complemented by dedicated teaching assistants, with support from both a specialist speech and language therapist and an audiologist.

Applicants will have the following key skills:

Able to set appropriately challenging learning and teaching objectives for whole groups or individuals

  • Able to promote and encourage independent learning
  • To arrange, plan, prepare, deliver and assess tutorials for students and to ensure learners use self study sessions productively
  • To be aware of and align teaching practice with the communication profiles of individual learners and participate in whole school approaches to teaching and learning
  • To support the audiological needs of pupils including checking audiological equipment such as hearing aids and cochlear implants. Encourage students to seek appropriate help from the Audiologist or Audiology Assistant.
  • To be involved in devising, delivering and monitoring programmes to foster Independent Living Skills
  • To liaise with other professionals including Social Services, physical and mental health professionals and voluntary organisations to ensure a holistic learner centred approach

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
