SEN Teaching Assistant

Cardiff

Pay: £60-£65

Long term role - Immediate Start

Our Specialist SEN Branch are currently working in partnership with a large client Special Educational Needs school in the West of Cardiff. They have a state-of-the-art building and cater for students with a variety of special needs. In particular, they support autistic students and also pupils with PMLD.Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a number of experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work within this SEN school. You must have experience of supporting pupils with Autism and/or Asperger's Syndrome and personal care.

Ideal Candidate

  • Interact effectively with children that have social communication needs and may be non-verbal
  • Deal with pupils' physical, medical, emotional and behavioural needs
  • Have empathy and be respectful and sensitive to the vulnerabilities of children with learning difficulties
  • Remain calm, positive and confident when presented with the unexpected
  • Be pro-active in recognising learning opportunities in all situations and during every part of the school day
  • Have knowledge of how to support a child whilst encouraging independence


This role will involve working in the primary department of the school with students who have Autism or Aspergers. As such, the ability to encourage and support these pupils while maintaining an awareness of their individual triggers and difficulties will be essential. Some of these pupils can exhibit challenging behaviours, so some experience with de-escalation strategies and possibly a valid Team Teach and Manual Handling certificate would also be beneficial but not essential.
