SEN Teacher - Portsmouth

The School

  • Provides education for children aged 2 to 16 years old, with a diagnosis of Special Educational Needs
  • Promotes independent learning and ensures education is accessible to all students
  • Sets students up for adult life, by teaching everyday skills such as using public transport and cooking
  • Located within Portsmouth, with access by train, bus and car

The Job 

  • Providing education by using PECs, creative curriculums and play based learning
  • Managing behaviours in line with School policy
  • Liaising with other education professionals to ensure all needs of each student are met
  • Follow individual learning plans and tailoring learning plans
  • Participate in staff meetings, PEP meetings, training sessions and parents evening when required

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Have a clear understanding of Special Educational Needs, specifically autism, severe and/or profound and multiple learning difficulties and social, emotional, mental health needs
  • To have worked with Special Needs in some form of professional capacity, such as Support Worker, Care Assistant or SEN Teaching Assistant before completing your Teacher Training
  • Hold UK QTS or Overseas equivalent 
  • Be patient, charismatic and nurturing towards students with additional needs
  • Have a passion for supporting children with special educational needs
  • Be available at least 2 days a week, Monday to Friday, Term Time only
