Job description

SEN Teacher

Location: Farnborough, Hampshire
Setting: Specialist SEMH & SEN School (Ages 4–16)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We're recruiting a dedicated Teacher to join a specialist school in Farnborough that supports children and young people aged 4–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, ADHD, and a range of additional learning needs.

Whether you're an experienced teacher, an Early Career Teacher (ECT), or have experience working within alternative provision or specialist education, this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive school where relationships, creativity, and individual progress are at the heart of teaching.

The school provides a structured, nurturing environment with small class sizes, high staff-to-pupil ratios, and a collaborative approach that allows teachers to focus on meeting the individual needs of every pupil.

The Role

As a Teacher, you'll be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that enable pupils to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Working alongside Learning Support Assistants, pastoral staff, therapists, and senior leaders, you'll create a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and motivated to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering high-quality lessons tailored to individual learning needs

  • Differentiating teaching to support pupils with a range of additional needs

  • Creating a calm, structured, and engaging classroom environment

  • Building positive relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and engagement

  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional, and personal development alongside their academic progress

  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records and assessments

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to support pupil outcomes

  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent, relationship-based approaches

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from teachers with a range of backgrounds, including mainstream, specialist education, alternative provision, or SEND settings.

You may be:

  • A Qualified Teacher (QTS or equivalent)

  • An Early Career Teacher (ECT)

  • Teacher with SEN experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills

  • Patience, resilience, and a flexible approach

  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs

  • A commitment to creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment

Previous experience teaching pupils with SEN or SEMH is beneficial but not essential. The school values enthusiasm, adaptability, and a willingness to learn, and offers ongoing training and support for teachers who are new to specialist education.

What You'll Receive

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications

  • Small class sizes and excellent levels of classroom support

  • Ongoing CPD and specialist SEN training

  • A supportive leadership team and collaborative working environment

  • Opportunities for career progression within specialist education

  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people every day

An enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service is desirable. Applicants who do not currently hold one must be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS as part of the recruitment process.
