As a Supply SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work within mainstream schools to support students with special educational needs, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and can fully participate in school life. You will work closely with teachers and SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and provide tailored support to students with a range of needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language difficulties. Your duties may include assisting with classroom activities, providing one-to-one support, helping to manage behavior, and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special educational needs
  • Assist with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and other support strategies
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum and engaging in learning activities
  • Promote independence and develop students' social and emotional skills
  • Assist with behavior management and de-escalation techniques when necessary
  • Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to ensure the holistic support of students
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievements
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and inclusive culture of the school

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs is desirable
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion and equality in education
  • Relevant qualifications or training (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, SEN training) would be advantageous
  • An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, or willingness to undergo one, is essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
