Job description

SEN Secondary Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive secondary setting in Oldham, working with pupils aged 11–16 with a range of additional learning needs. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment where pupils are supported to access learning, build confidence and develop positive relationships.

Pupils in the setting may present with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, moderate learning difficulties and communication needs. You will work as part of a collaborative team alongside class teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis in lessons
  • Assist pupils to access the curriculum through adapted activities
  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Implement EHCP targets and individual support plans
  • Support pupils during transitions, break and lunchtime periods
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to provide consistent support
  • Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience working with young people with SEN or additional needs (school-based or transferable experience welcomed)
  • Is patient, calm and resilient
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident supporting behaviour using positive strategies
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Committed to safeguarding and inclusive education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
