Job description

SEN Secondary School Teaching Assistant – Oldham

We are recruiting a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a specialist secondary school setting in Oldham. This role focuses on helping young people with additional needs engage with learning, regulate emotions and develop independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support across a range of subjects

  • Support pupils with ASD, SEMH, communication needs, sensory needs or cognitive difficulties

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning

  • Assist teachers with adapting lessons and resources to meet individual needs

  • Support EHCP outcomes, personal learning targets and transition planning

  • Encourage independence, self-esteem and social skills

  • Maintain clear records, observations and safeguarding information

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people, ideally in SEN or secondary settings

  • A patient, consistent and confident approach to behaviour support

  • Full availability during the school week

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and support staff

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
